this is osmond. he was our tour guide in egypt. he was very intelligent and could even read hieroglyhics. i don't think we could have had a better guide. he was fun and very generous, but most of all, a christian.

this was one of our body guards. under his jacket he had an automatic pistol. he was always on the lookout.

road stop on the sinai peninsula.

a few miles south of luxor, this bridge linked the east side of egypt with the west.

valley of the kings on the west side of the nile.

driving through cairo, this bus came alongside ours for a brief second. i always sat by a window, camera in hand.

i walked down a few hundred feet from the top of mount sinai. the sun had been up for a few minutes. toward the east stood this woman. i positioned myself so that the sun was directly behind her. this is what happened. an eclipse.

store front in eilat jordan.

after coming down from mount sinai i went into saint catherines. while waiting for the rest of the group to show up i walked around taking pictures. it was almost nine am. and the sun was strong. i found this arrangement interesting.

in the heart of st. catherine at the base of mount sinai this is a descendant of the burning bush. moses said it was in flame but was not consumed. God spoke and told moses to go to the top of the mountain.

these boys gathered as we pulled into marah, the springs of moses in the sinai peninsula.

taken at philae temple on the lsi-island as we are about to depart by boat.

two people in the back city of petra jordan.

passing a store in eilat jordan a blanket caught my eye as the sun glared off its surface.

heading for petra jordan we went through many very small villages. as we drove bye i took this picture out the bus window.

this would be the last time i saw the pyramids for a while. we had left giza and i caught site of the great pyramids as the bus turned a corner. i shot many pictures out of the bus. sometimes the glare would wreck the picture because of the glass. sometimes it makes a picture. i call this one (time and all those memories) just think, if the pyramids were built about 5000 years ago, that would be 1,825,000 days. and the earth never tires of going around the star, and how many people came and went, and if we last as a human race for 1,825,000 more days, what then?

one day up in aswan, osmond our tour guide treated us to a sail boat ride toward evening.

this guy was on some jordan money.

on our way to amman jordan we stopped at a gift shop. i took this picture of a manikin and all the colorful background.

many people stopped for lunch. i walked the small town of eilat jordan and checked out the stores, looking for something to take pictures of. it was noon and the light was perfect. this was in a window of a store and it caught my eye.

girl on a wall on a phone on a sunday in giza.

we passed through the land of goshen and through the wilderness of shur and stopped at marah or the springs of moses. this little girl lived there in marah.

coming down from the top of mount sinai.

this is a doorway i saw as i walked to the city of petra. who would think to photograph an old beat up door? did you ever think how many door ways you walked through in your life? how different life can be on one side of a door compaired to the other.

i love a good boat picture. colors always adds to a picture. our boat was moving fast as we passed the shores. sometimes i only had a brief second to get a shot. if you miss it, never again!

even though more than 80% of egypt is of the moslem faith, many celebrate christmas on january 7th. they decorate and wish others a merry christmas. this was a town a little south of cairo.

heading south on the nile looking at the west side of the river.

the esna locks were just a head. this boat and a few others, tied off to our boat and were trying to sell us things like shirts and scarfs. i had my camera on the fastest shutter speed. you can see by the water how fast we were moving. all in all there were at least 30 boats of people hoping to sell us something.

as we drove south on the nile heading toward the equator, i stayed on the upper deck of the boat. i stood in wonderment thinking of all the history that went on in past time. this day was the last of the year 2008. i shot many pictures of the shores and things that went on in this place called egypt.

to a photographer, ceasing the moment or getting an unusual angle can make a good picture. see what i mean?

this is near the valley of kings. king tuts tomb was found near by. there may be many tombs beneath the sands of this mountain?

on the way to the nubian village on a small branch off the nile river near aswan.

this was a venders chair near the coptic church in cairo.

one day in luxor this truck passed our bus. i tried to get a good picture. this is what i got because he was going fast and we were moving.

a common form of transportation. boy on a donkey up near the valley of kings.

colossus of memnon at luxor and the west bank of the nile river. built for pharaoh amenhotep the third. it was said that sound would come from these statues at sunset.

at the alabaster store near the valley of the kings.

sunset the night we were on our way to the esna locks. last sunset of the year 2008.

police man at the giza pyramids.

the way in to petra in jordan was through a large crack in the mountain. it was maybe a half a mile or so long. as i walked in, the sun was nearing straight up. i was walking west and nearing the rose rock fortress of the city of petra where the edomite people, descendends of esau once lived.

boats docked in luxor.
